Rhenus Myanmar Limited is located in the heart of Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon). Prior to the relatively recent foundation of the new capital city Naypyidaw, Yangon was the seat of government. It remains to this date the largest, most populous and most important center of business and cultural activity of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). The main international airport and international sea ports are located in Yangon.

After decades of politic and economic isolation, Myanmar (“The Golden Land”) is emerging with big opportunities. First steps towards a more liberal and democratic system were implemented by the new government in 2011. This came after decades of political and economic isolation. In the recent years, international sanctions have been eased successively as Myanmar undertook further steps to open up its economy and also to align itself with the statutes of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations), which Myanmar is a member of. Myanmar has a population of about 52 million, comprising numerous ethnic groups and a multitude of different languages. It has a rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscape and is rich in natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals, rare earths and gems.

Based on this background, a fully Rhenus owned subsidiary Rhenus Myanmar Ltd was established at Yangon in middle of 2015. Its size and operations will expand rapidly in the coming years. Rhenus Myanmar is run by a team of experts having a long experience in logistics.

Yangon is linked to other cities by road, air and inland waterways. The cross border highways to Thailand and China are under expansion works right now. Other key infrastructure projects include the establishment of new sea ports along the long coast line as well as major investments in power supply and telecommunication. The economic development of Myanmar is now taking on speed, and it is widely expected that the once flourishing economy will soon again be in full swing and make Myanmar one of the new “Tiger States” in Asia, with a significant manufacturing base and a rising middle class.
