The State Day is 7th February. The main area of economic activity is around Agriculture. Principal crops being paddy, wheat, chili, cotton, potatoes, groundnut, sesame, pulses, tea and Virginia tobacco. Compare to other states cold climate also allows cultivation of oranges, peaches, pears, damsons, apples, grapes, onions, pineapples, vegetables and Thanatphet Trees.
In order to further develop agriculture in Shan State, Heho Valley Irrigation Canal, Banyin Irrigation Canal, and many more irrigation systems work in the region. Shan state is rich of natural resources such as silver, lead iron, zinc, copper, tin, antimony, coal, tungsten and precious stones as well.
