Nowadays, the electricity becomes the basic need among all of power related infrastructure, and power industry also becomes the primary diver of economic and social development in Myanmar. Since the opening years of 21stcentury, management of IGE group of companiesrealized that power sector becomes a sustainable industry. For this reason, IGE entered hydropower generation in 2005 which is the most potential source for Power Industry.

During the first decade, IGE participated in all kinds of many hydropower projects, starting from feasibility study to power generation. From that time IGE became one of the leading companies in that industry with well-known name IGE Hydropower. Through several years in hydropower business, IGE also became the primary local partner for some international investment companies and Construction companies such as CTGC, Sino Hydro, YEIG International, Hydrochina Corporation, CGGC and EGATi. Currently, IGE is implementing hydropower JV projects such asHutgyi, Ngaw Chang Hka, Naopha and Mantong and Mong Ton including construction (Underground, Spillway, Dam Placing), Equipment Supply in Hydropower Projects.

With the development of power industry, IGE has established International Power Generation Public Company Limited (IPG) to participate actively in local IPP for Hydropower on BOT basics and other renewable energy projects like Dam Tunnel for Hydropower project which included solar, wind, thermal, biomass. All in all, IPGis shaping to become a construction based multi-developer in power environment targeting hydropower as a core business to boost its revenue and also its reputation.
